Today I looked at my bookshelf and picked up my copy of Franny and Zooey and began flipping through the pages.
I was immediately enveloped with overwhelming nostalgia.
One summer, before my junior year of high school, I read every J.D. Salinger work.
I was filled with self-awareness and a love for his way with words.
I underlined phrases I identified with and marked up those books to death.
Though I was able to connect more with Salinger's work when I was an angsty 16 year-old girl, his works still resonate with me and holds high sentimental value.
These are just some J.D. Salinger quotes that I love:
"Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody."
- J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
"Let's just try to have a marvelous time this weekend. I mean not try to analyze everything to death for once, if possible. Especially me. I love you."
- J.D. Salinger, Franny and Zooey
"An artist's only concern is to shoot for some kind of perfection, and on his own terms, not anyone else's."
- J.D. Salinger, Franny and Zooey
My heart strings are strung.

hello, twenty ten

I haven't made any in years past, but this year, I'm being ambitious.
I turn 20 this year, so I've decided to make 20 resolutions.
I love how the new year makes it seem like a new beginning is possible,
even if it's not wholly true.
I'm ready. We all are.
Here it goes:
1. Become less passive. Learn to stand up for myself when necessary, and say no when necessary.
2. Write at least a sentence in a bedside journal every night.
3. Read at least six books for pleasure this year.
4. Start a real saving's account.
5. Constantly work on art of all forms.
6. Figure out what I want---become more decisive.
7. Cook! Become a really, really good cook this year.
8. Get more involved in my community. Volunteer.
9. Keep in contact with out-of-state friends via (at least) weekly phone calls.
10. Watch all of the movies I need to in order to understand the references that come up in
typical college-student conversation.
11. Read the newspaper everyday.
12. Workout five days a week.
13. Learn to play guitar well.
14. Call Grandmom at least once a month.
15. Get up each morning with enough time to make breakfast before class.
16. Focus on getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night.
17. Worry less about the future, the uncontrollable. Worry less in general.
18. Be efficient and organized with my time.
19. Research study-abroad programs.
20. Keep my apartment and room clean.
Cheers!
